Oxford Style Debate
All teams participate. Speakers defend and oppose the motion, followed by open rebuttal and interjections.
Ideas converge and perspectives transform through conscious collaboration. JS 2026 is designed as a rigorous two-day intellectual experience, not just a speaking competition.
At its core lies the belief that the ability to think critically is as important as the ability to speak persuasively. Through a structure that demands adaptability, depth, and precision, the Symposium seeks to cultivate individuals who are comfortable engaging with complexity.
All teams participate. Speakers defend and oppose the motion, followed by open rebuttal and interjections.
Qualified teams switch sides mid-speech and contribute to a consensus paper rooted in shared understanding.
Eight teams compete across two parallel forums in a 4v4 government-versus-opposition structure.
Four teams enter parliamentary-style head-to-head debates with structured speeches and rebuttal windows.
The two finalists debate in the main auditorium before the winning team is declared.
Every round rewards clarity, adaptability, listening, synthesis, and meaningful engagement.
Each team consists of three participants from grades 9 to 12 from the same school.
Each school may register up to two teams, subject to confirmation.
The Symposium runs across two intensive days on campus.
